Unchangable kennel name on dogs
Started By
And before anyone gores off about how we have tags already, no, that is not at all the same and doesn't help in tracking lines.

I dislike it when the names of my dogs get changed - not so much the pups but the ones who already had pups themselves .It is totally confusing if someone buys a parent of my pups and changes names. How am I to remember what lines are what? Personally, I need the names of the parents in my lines to stay the same, any other method of keeping track just doesn't work.

It is beyond annoying, and after recently again someone changed names even after me asking not to, I've no other option than to not sell such dogs anymore.

But what if our dogs had a kennel name they come with, which cannot be changed and shows in the parentage and lines, and a call name? This is the case in RL, too - for example, my aunt's dog is called Attila the Faithful, but is call name is Liam. My cat's call name is Fussel, but her cattery name says Lucina's Biscuit Bliss. (Her cattery site)

I understand people not wanting to be stuck with a weird name or having a naming scheme or using additions in the name to keep track of status. I do some of that myself. But i think having a kennel name and a call name would do away with the renaming issue and still help the rest of us track lines.

No support. Once you sell a dog, it belongs to the person who bought it. You can tag it, but you can't control what they name it (even just it's kennel name), and I wouldn't buy a dog if I was stuck with someone else's kennel name on it that I didn't like (For example, something like silverwolfstargirl45894's wouldn't exactly fit into my kennel).<br /> <br /> If you are having this much trouble remembering your dogs' lines, then maybe you should breed fewer dogs or come up with a new way to memorize them, but the coders can't really create a whole other system just because you personally don't like this one.

Doesn't help with the lineages though, which is where the problem really is.

I like the idea, but some kennel names are atrocious [RL names that is] and the same could happen for Ala dogs.<br /> My cats [irl] for example... their parents kennel names are "Kittenrun" and "Arte". I dunno how I'd feel about all kennel-names on dogs.. and it would probably put a big dent in my dog-buying. Not to mention, I don't think many people would like to see something as plain as "Clay's _____"<br /> <br /> I do see people buying dogs and naming them [previousowner]'s [dogname] and I think that's really neat, but I wouldn't like it to be non-optional<br /> <br /> All I gotta do to check up on dogs is click "Dog's tagged with CLAY"

Yeah, it is so nice if people do things a certain way and then insist everyone else should be able to do it the same way. And to say "I don't see the use" after I explained it is basically calling me stupid. <br /> <br /> I'll just not sell my dogs anymore.

No support. I keep track of lines by the dog's ID number. That doesn't change. No need to make names unchangeable.

No support, I don't see the use

No, checking line names is NOT enough. In my head it is all connected to names. I wouldn't even recognize the parent dog as one of mine. And you can't really expect me to click every single dog in a pedigree to check. <br /> <br /> And you don't seem to understand - you can still change a dog's call name with my idea. That is the whole point.

My 2 cents:<br /> <br /> I wouldn't buy a dog I couldn't change the name to - I would think this especially true for those that like to put TP, symbols and other notes in their dogs name. Your Tag is essentially your kennel name that helps you keep track of the dogs you produce.<br /> <br /> I would think checking lineages should be enough to keep your dogs straight - even if Bob is not Bob anymore he will show up on all lineages as whatever his new name is.

Yeah exactly.

That definitely sounds like something that would be a huge help for breeders. And have it so that both names show when the dog is called for a lineage? So when you visit a lineage page you see both names and don't have to guess at which dog is which.
